Why Positivity Breeds Success

Why Positivity Breeds Success New recruiters will often hear the phrase positivity breeds success. But why is this quality so important, and how exactly does it help us at work? We take a look at this fascinating and hugely powerful quality, and the reasons for fostering it: It is infectious: When you feel positive and optimistic, it shines from you. People with great personalities and charisma are invariably positive people. By feeling good themselves, they naturally want others to feel good too, and will often go out of their way to help others to achieve their goals. When you think about it, a recruiters role is to support the client to achieve their recruitment goals so the right attitude is key to selling your service, and making it compelling to potential leads. It rubs off on others: Positivity will help your colleagues and co-workers to feel better too, as they will take inspiration from your attitude and approach. This will be greatly valued by your managers and leadership team, as they see the powerful and supportive role that you play within the business. By: Mike Kincaid It makes you stand out for the right reasons: Walk into a room with a big smile and the attitude that you are there to do a great service, help others and deliver, and you will instantly attract others to you. That energy, that positivity and a proactive approach generates, is highly compelling. Think about someone you know that radiates optimism, and compare them to someone you know that is pessimistic and negative. Who will you naturally go and speak to in a gathering? It boosts your mood: Our thoughts drive our emotions, and the power of positivity is that, by simply thinking about good things, we can greatly improve our moods, thoughts and actions. Remember, thoughts drive emotions and thoughts also drive our actions. If we are thinking in the right way, we will act in the right way. Positive thinking expands our boundaries and sense of confidence and self. When we feel positive, we will naturally challenge ourselves to try out new things or take good risks. It boosts your creativity: Positive thinking is naturally creative, mainly because it helps you to relax, feel good and think expansively about ways to tackle problems and opportunities, rather than convincing yourself that innovation or risk taking is fruitless, and that you are doomed from the start! That position of calm and openness can really help your creative juices to flow! It helps you build relationships and draws others to you: Most of the favourite people in our personal and professional lives tend to have a sparkle about them. They will focus on the good, look for the best in situations, and be generally optimistic and happy. These people draw others towards them with their positive energy, and by fostering a similar approach, you can develop equal successes in your relationships. Remember, positivity is contagious, and the more you practice it and tweak your way of thinking towards optimism, the greater the results. By: wimpers It helps you to tackle difficult situations in the right way: There are very few truly right or wrong situations, in the way that there are few truly or entirely good or bad situations. The way we view something depends on our outlook and perspective. If you can find something good or positive in a difficult situation, you have cracked the secret to developing and learning as an individual. Only by reflecting on lessons learned, and then changing your approach, do you develop. Simply mulling over a bad outcome and doing nothing about it, will leave you stuck in your current position. Again, line up your thoughts in the right way, and the actions will flow. Another great tip is to view a difficult situation from the other persons perspective, to gain insight and understanding about their position. This helps you to moderate your approach, and dissipates anger when you dont get your own way. Learning techniques such as compromise and negotiation is also valuable, as is reflecting on the situation afterwards, and discussing alternative approaches it with an experienced mentor. It helps you to achieve your goals: For anyone who has ever read The Secret, the allure of positive and goal-oriented thinking is clear. The theory holds that like attracts like, so that positive thinking and focusing on your goals and the good things in life, will attract these to you. Likewise, focusing on bad situations and negative scenarios can attract those things towards you to which is why people that we perceive as being lucky, are invariably optimistic and glass half full people. Positivity breeds the right behaviours: Positive people will be the ones coming into work early with a smile on their face, enjoying conversation with their colleagues and looking forward to the day, before proactively cold calling, working on their social media presence, booking a full diary and generally making sure they get the most from each day, rather than thinking about all the things that could go wrong. Their attitude makes them bold and successful, simply because it removes fear and inertia. Positivity is always an active trait, and it engenders energy. Welcome it into your life, and you will constantly feel the benefits! 7 Tales from the Recruitment Crypt

7 Tales from the Recruitment Crypt Every profession has horror stories to tell. Why these tales exist beggars the belief of the majority of genuine professionals searching for roles or working in recruitment. However there will always be a small minority who feel permitted to behave in a completely unprofessional manner and as though the world owes them some kind of favour. So with Halloween just around the corner here are some of the gasp inducing stories our team have to tell or have been told. 1. Punchy interview techniques Back in the 1990s an engineer candidate attempted to attend an interview without mobile phones and sat navs. He hadnt factored in that the road the company was located was about 10 miles long and he ended up being about 40 mins late. The mild mannered MD interviewing him was very understanding at the start of the interview and then explained he would have to leave in 20 mins to collect his kids. The candidate then punched the client, yes really, for wasting his time! 2. Missing in action A candidate attending two second interviews, goes missing en route and he doesnt turn up for any of them. Hours later he calls to say he had been involved in a motorway pile up with his car written off. Somehow though, he manages to get to the interviews two days later miraculously arriving in the same car he had attended his initial interview in, this was the car that was apparently written off! 3. Mixing business with pleasure During an interview a candidate was asked about his greatest accomplishment, he replied that it was writing a short novel. When the interviewer said, ‘No, I mean something you did while at work,’ the candidate replied, ‘But I did write it while at work!’ The candidate was unsuccessful! 4. OCD client A fantastic candidate, lets call her Steph, was interviewing for a digital design job at a high profile digital marketing agency. During the interview, Steph moved something on the interviewer’s desk to make room for her portfolio. When I later asked the decision-maker why he was not looking to make an offer to an extremely well qualified candidate with extremely hard-to-find technical skills, he actually said to me “She touched my stuff!” 5. Unbeknown to the candidate A recruiter speculatively presented an employed candidate to four companies, the candidate knew nothing about it, one of the clients receiving the speculative CV was best friends with the candidates current manager. A quick forward of the speculative CV from one friend to another and the candidate finds herself pulled into a meeting being asked “why have I got your cv?!” ARGH! 6. Reincarnation Once had a temp who had called in sick because his mum had died. Two months later he called in sick because his mum had died, again!!! He did not get to be a permanent employee! 7. Rampant recruiting A talented gentleman on interview, his CV was great, the client was looking forward to meeting him, the interview was going well and the gentleman was doing a great job of selling himself. What could go wrong? All was going great until, he very proudly told the interviewer that he has only ever had one day off sick in five years and that was because he got a twisted testicle during some vigorous lovemaking! There is such a thing as too much information! Bonus: Temp desk troubles Busy Friday afternoons, multiple clients, candidates, jobs and tasking, occasionally things can go wrong. Like the time a chef arrived for a temporary booking at a warehouse requiring a manager and a forklift truck driver arrived at a hotel with a requirement for a head chef! Sometimes it just can all go wrong! Over many years of recruiting, we have many great successful stories to tell and comparatively few horror stories thankfully. No matter how thorough the processes in place are there will always be the unexpected and that is probably the most important lesson to be learned from these stories. Expect the unexpected, people will never fail to surprise, delight and disappoint. Whats your best recruitment tale from the crypt? Please share in the comments! Resume, LinkedIn and Interviewing Recipe for a Job Offer

Resume, LinkedIn and Interviewing â€" Recipe for a Job Offer I bet you have heard time and time again how important it is to have a unique resume, breathtaking LinkedIn profile, and knock your socks off interviewing skills. When it comes to receiving a job offer, these three ingredients are all you need.I want you to visualize something delicious. Let’s say, brownies! Betty Crocker makes things pretty easy for us. You add water, vegetable oil, and an egg. Now, what happens if you leave out just one tiny ingredient? The brownies are ruined! The same thing happens if you neglect your resume, LinkedIn, or Interviewing skills. Each ingredient plays an equally important role in the creation of your end product â€" a job!Ingredient #1 â€" ResumeAlthough all ingredients are necessary, the resume is going to be the main one. A well written, well crafted, and fully optimized resume is going to set you apart from your competition. Not to mention, it’ll be nearly impossible to begin applying for jobs without a resume.Well WrittenYou might be asking yo urself, “what do you mean well written?” This simply means that the content you include in your resume should be grammatically correct. An amazing tool that can be downloaded to your browser to help with all things grammar is called Grammarly. It’s a completely free app that I wish I had during school! Kids these days have all the cool tools.Well-CraftedA well-crafted resume in this situation refers to the formatting, design, font, color, etc. Make sure that your resume is not over the top, unprofessional, or obnoxious to the reader. A crisp, clean, and professional resume is very achievable. If you aren’t sure where to start, check out Professional Resume Style - Headers, Fonts, Themes. Fully OptimizedThis is the area that most resumes are lacking. Hopefully, you have heard of an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) by now. If you haven’t, it is a computer program that scans resumes and ranks them based on their content. In other words, if you have the right keywords on your resume, you rank high. If you don’t, you guessed it; you rank low. This part can be a little bit tricky, so if you aren’t an experienced resume writer, I would recommend contacting a professional. However, if you want to give it a try on your own, learn How To Use Resume Keywords When Applying For Jobs.Ingredient #2 â€" LinkedIn ProfileIf you don’t have a LinkedIn profile, don’t worry! It’s not too late to create one. Trust me, so many people are underutilizing their LinkedIn that it will be easy to catch up. With the right guidance, you will have an All-Star LinkedIn profile that will play a huge factor in landing your next job offer. If you already have a LinkedIn, you probably aren’t in a much better position than the person who is just now creating one. So, what is LinkedIn good for anyways? A few different things.NetworkingNetworking is a key factor to LinkedIn. After all, it is a “Social Networking” platform. You can only know so many people personally. The grea t thing about LinkedIn is that you can connect with friends of friends (2nd-degree connections). Or friends of friends of friends (3rd-degree connections). You can join all sorts of groups to find people with common interests. If you love golf, there are a ton of golf groups. If you love cooking, singing, or sports, you can also find groups for that! Learn how to network like a pro by reading this article on LinkedIn Networking.Job SearchingLinkedIn makes it easy to search and apply for jobs. With a complete LinkedIn profile, you can easily apply to many jobs without having to fill out a job application. You simply click the “Apply with LinkedIn” button, and the job application is complete. It’s not uncommon for hiring managers and recruiters to post jobs on LinkedIn. It is the most common social network for business professionals and the best place to publicize open positions. Staying active on LinkedIn and frequently checking your news feed can really pay off for your job se arch.CredibilityWho doesn’t love to increase their own credibility? In a perfect world, no one would ever doubt your credibility. But unfortunately, that’s not the case. A very common practice for recruiters or hiring managers is to check out your LinkedIn profile after you apply for a job. They want to make sure what is being said on your resume lines up with your LinkedIn profile. They also want to find out any additional information about you that they can. Credibility starts with a great looking LinkedIn. An unfinished LinkedIn could make you look lazy. A poorly worded LinkedIn could make you come off as unintelligent. A silly photo could make you seem unprofessional. Avoid all of these problems by reading19 Essential LinkedIn Profile Tips For Job Seekers.Ingredient #3 â€" Interviewing SkillsBeing a great interviewer is arguably one of the most important skills you could possess during a job search. But all too often I see great interviewers, who aren’t even given a chance to interview. This is the worst! And that’s why we have listed interviewing skills last. Although important, it’s even more important to be able to receive interviews. Otherwise, you will never have your chance to shine. Being a great interview takes dedication and practice. It does not take a particular personality, college degree, or anything like that. Anybody who puts in the time and effort to practice their interviewing skills can become a pro.I guarantee that if you read each and every question/answer to the article 50 Top Job Interview Questions And Answers you will be 10x more prepared for your interview than before. Don’t let your hard-earned interview go to waste. Be prepared to convert 100% of your interview into offers. This is truly possible by taking the time to read the articles above. At the end of the day, it’s important that you remember these simple, yet vital ingredients. Your resume, LinkedIn profile, and interviewing skills when combined, will make one heck of a job offer.

What Are Good Skills When Writing a Resume?

What Are Good Skills When Writing a Resume? What are good skills when writing a resume? There are hundreds of answers to this question. We do know that one of the most basic and most useful is one's resume should be able to convey what they can do for you. There are many advantages to hiring someone who can help you with your resume and many disadvantages to using someone else. Some people have employers who they are too scared to hire because they are afraid they will just use them and get them fired. This happens all the time. It is very rare however that you can find someone who has a positive or neutral experience with someone who did not follow any sort of hiring standards. It is far better to use someone who can help you create a good resume and can get you the job than it is to try to fire someone without any type of paperwork. The next question when writing a resume is what are good skills when writing a resume. If you have used someone who is not who they say they are then you need to stop using them. This means you cannot just change jobs because you feel it would be better or that you did not like the person. Never ever try to lie to your employer about why you were fired. If you find out you were fired because you had made some type of problem about the person and the situation is not what you made it out to be then you need to stop. When you write a resume you need to make sure you put a good solid information on it. Do not just ramble on. You can also add references, but be sure to back them up. This means making sure the references are real people that have verified employment and proof they are the people who are listed on your resume. Many times people will state their 'feelings' about a person without researching anything else and then post them on a resume to try and make it seem more like they are the best person for the job. What are good skills when writing a resume when someone has a negative opinion about you? How do you change their opinion? That is what you want to find out by researching the person you are dealing with and that you make sure you know a lot about them.Other than the job requirements the company has and other items that are very important, the only thing you really need to know to make a good resume is that. Some employers may ask you to include references but do not let them make the call as to how they look at you and how you can make them feel that they made the right decision about you. Use your own judgment when determining if you need to include references, but do not make a major mistake like asking them to write a reference for you as if you had written one yourself.Another thing that is good skills when writing a resume is one that states the salary range you are worth. This will give the employer a rough idea of how much they can offer you and will be a great selling point for them when they want to increase the offer to you. It will also show how well you can keep a professional working rela tionship going with you. These are all things that are important when writing a resume when what are good skills when writing a resume. You do not have to be perfect with everything, but you do have to know what are good skills when writing a resume.

Contacting Strangers On Linkedin

Contacting Strangers On Linkedin This article originally appeared in Ragan.com last December 2, 2013.Last week, I received an info interview request from a stranger as a direct message on  LinkedIn. Despite my very busy schedule, I decided to take his call.Over the weekend, I asked myself, Why did I agree?Lets take his email apart and put it into four essential elements so you can use them in your own LinkedIn networking  communications. Networking with strangers on LinkedIn can give you great results if youre deliberate in the process.First, heres the email I got over LinkedIn from J.:Hi Joshua,I noticed we are both connected to M. F.â€"how do you know M.? I first met her at J.P., and she actually photographed my wedding. Small world.I wanted to touch base with you because I saw an open position at J.R. I thought would be a great fit for me. Im located in Portland now, and do social media strategy for a digital marketing agency here in town. Its a fun role, but you know how agencies areâ€"fingers in a lot of differ ent businesses, but no ability to truly own a marketing program. It looks like I would be able to do that with the Marketing Communications Manager role that is posted.Would you mind if I called you some time this week to hear about your experience at J.R. and your perspective on the marketing organization there? Id really appreciate it. J. Now, lets look at the takeaways:1. Lead with something in commonJ. began his email by pointing out our mutual friend M.F., and although I know M.F. from my sisters college days, what really got my attention was M.F. was the photographer at his wedding. With LinkedIn, there is a danger the first-degree connection isnt really a close friend. I went through an Open Networking  phase, and about 100 people in my LinkedIn network are complete strangers to me.Dont assume just because theyre connected that they know each other.J. took a calculated risk. However, he mitigates that risk by further sharing a personal tidbit: Hes married. As another recently married guy, I can very much relate to his situation (i.e., he has my sympathy).2. Get to the pointâ€"fastJ. wastes no time on BS or apologies. Hes writing to me because he saw an open position at a company with which I have a relationship and he thinks hed be a fit.Notice he says, I saw an open position. He doesnt assume I know anything about this position. In fact, it was news to me. So I can infer hes not assuming Im any kind of decision-maker. I know this is going to be a purely informational interview.Furthermore, he concludes the email by reaffirming that hes just looking to hear about my experience with J.R., the company, and my perspective on its marketing organization. You have Successfully Subscribed! We hate spam too. Unsubscribe any time. My guard goes down, because I know hes not going to put me on th e spot or ask me for more than just my opinion.3. What makes him qualified?Without bragging, J. makes it clear that hes a serious candidate, not one of those job fisherman. He tells me he already works at an agency and that even though he enjoys his current agency, hes looking for more. He wants to truly own a marketing program. It might occur to me, after all, that if he already has a job, why is he looking to make a change? That concern is assuaged.4. What do you want from me?He concludes his email with, Would you mind if I called you sometime this week… meaning, I wont have to do anything except wait for a phone call and talk to him. Sounds easy.I would have even mentioned the exact amount of time such a conversation would have taken, Would you mind if I called you this week for just 10 or 15 minutes?Other observationsYou may have also noticed…The email was  very  short. It took me less than 30 seconds to read it.He named the position he was after, he did his research, and I kn ow he wont waste my time.He is sensitive to and grateful for my time: I would really appreciate it…The next time you are reaching out to someone new over LinkedIn, consider bringing in one or more of these elements to your message. Im sure it will make a big difference in your response rate.Any successful messages on LinkedIn? Please share them in the comments section so we can learn from your brilliance.
